Shop handcrafted works from small businesses! Meet Susan Berger with Strong Heart Glass at Belmont Handcrafted Originals Art Fair March 26 and 27, 2022 10:00am to 5:00pm. “My work consists of fused and slumped glass, products made to be of use in the home. My studio is in my home and my kilns are in my garage. I begin with sheets of glass – some color, some clear – that I cut with diamond-wheel glass scorers that allow me to break the glass into smaller pieces, shapes, etc. I use small wheeled “nippers” to clip off small pieces and a diamond-wheel grinder to remove sharp bits that haven’t been cleanly removed on their own. From there, it’s a matter of creating a mosaic of a sorts by placing bits of glass on or next to other bits of glass, sprinkling crushed glass (called frit), perhaps using gold or silver foil or paints, to make more detailed designs. The colors I use are based on gut response of what moves me at the moment. The designs I make are sometimes based on what I see when I’m walking down the street or an image that pops into my head.” ~ Susan Berger Get to know the artists and learn the stories behind each piece they make.
