My anthem these days is "Who Tells Our Stories, if We don't." I started making journals and books ages ago, always gave them as gifts. My Beloved Aunt, the late Othella Vaughn, pushed trying me to start a business, but I balked; then it would be work, not fun. My aunt after graduating from Temple University, Philadelphia at the age of 69, began a scholarship award to aid others. When I realized I could use any monies to help support her efforts , The Write Designs was born. I channel my love for collage, mixed media and paper into my books and favor the "junk journal" genre. Repurposing everyday items, junk mail, paper bags to use as writing surfacing. And not being too fussy. Most of my book covers are quilted with "wonky" stitching, and not one straight line to be found. The purpose is to get our words on the page, so that our place on this planet is documented! Recently I've discovered machine embroidery designs, and I'm hooked.
I discovered FabMo in 2014 just after I retired. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I was in the fashion business in my 20's and immediately recognized the treasures Hannah and Jonathan were offering. I began using leathers and my collage love turned into mini patchwork quilted book covers. Now I focus on refillable journals, so people don't have to toss what many have said to me is a work of art they want to keep long after they've filled the pages.
