I’m a textile artist creating both fine and functional art. My wearable designs are colorful, one-of-a-kind pieces that are tactile, durable and unique. Every item is carefully constructed by hand, start to finish, in my home studio. Each of us is special and different—shouldn’t the items we use daily be, too? My work will make your ordinary moments feel magical by adding a touch of luxury to the everyday. Since I only use FabMo fabrics, everything is sustainable and eco-friendly to boot!

FabMo re-ignited my creativity after decades of hibernation. When I came across all those luxurious fabrics-in-distress, I knew I had to find uses for them, and my creative adventure began. The rest, as they say, is history

ANY Texture Textile Art

All of my purses/tote bags are handmade by me. They are one-of-a-kind and Earth friendly; made from "rescued" designer fabrics, and repurposed vintage items such as needlepoints, leather belts, and horse brass. 

The first bags I made were inspired by the desire to repurpose vintage needlepoint into something useful. I needlepoint myself so I know, and appreciate, the hours of work and the expense in wool and canvas, required to make a beautiful needlepoint tapestry, and I believe these works should be seen and, perhaps, flaunted.

I started buying vintage needlepoints and incorporating them into totes and bags for myself, and for family and friends; each suited to the personality of the recipient. During those searches for the "right" needlepoints, I discovered, and purchased, an abundance of vintage needlepoints that "spoke to me". Some were traditional florals and landscapes, and some were quirky finds that I just couldn't resist buying. Thus, my shop "Bagnitude" was born.  Bagnitude bags are "Bags with Attitude". Whatever style you choose, classic, or quirky, it will be fun to wear and a conversation starter.

FabMo did not inspire my creations, but without FabMo, I, and other small business crafters  would not be able to compete in the marketplace. It is very difficult to make money for the actual amount of time one puts into crafting; especially for one-of-a-kind items. FabMo provides the opportunity for me to save both time and money to help compensate a bit for that. At FabMo, I have been able to find the wide variety of quality fabrics I want, all in one place, at a cost that allows me to stock my workroom with enough fabric that I almost always have something that works with my vision for my next project. And the icing on the cake, is being able to make a product that is almost completely "Earth Friendly".

CarryOn Designs

I make one-of-a-kind custom bags and wristlets from 100% upcycled fabrics/leathers/pleathers in support of FabMo's founders' devotion to recycling and creativity. 

I met Hannah and Jonathan before FabMo was a non-profit. Their home was wall-to-wall textiles. I made a few quilts with my first fabric frenzy at their home. I quickly realized that making small purses was more fun for me.  Friends were my customer base. Then I found Etsy. Then street fairs. THEN there was FabTAB!  I love seeing the unique creations inspired by FabMo's bounty. Customers flock to their favorite vendors. I've come to know many and feel blessed to have touched so many people with my creativity.

Claudia's Bags

I started to create my signature handmade art cards back in 2000 using postage stamps from around the world and decorative papers. My previous business partner was now running her daughter's clothing company and suggested I come down to the showroom to go through remnants they were no longer using.  There were beautiful laces and fabrics from Italy - and when I started to incorporate them into my greeting cards as background collage, my artistic presentation went from 0 - 60 in style and elegance.  The fabrics really brought the WOW factor. I am known for my color matching and how I show different textures and patterns to enhance the art on the stamp. Since then, I have been designing specialty art cards for museum gift shops around the country.  In 2008, I started illustrating and created a line of colorful, witty and whimsical encouragement cards which use the metaphor of sight to shift your perspective when faced with unexpected challenges.  I've authored three books using my illustrations: "Life's Too Short to Spend with Assholes," Life's Too Short NOT to Get Your Ass Out of Bed and Go to Yoga," and "AWESOME: Fierce, Feisty & Fabulous - Women Game-Changing the World." Prior to this, I was a casting director for movies and television for twenty years.

A jewelry designer from an art show told me about FabMo about 4 years ago. Since I live in Los Angeles, it's not easy for me to get up to the Bay Area - but I'm always happy when an art show falls on the same weekend as their monthly fabric selection.  For me, textiles are addicting and I love materials that are nubby, unravel or are interestingly textured.  Colored Linens make my heart sing! Honestly, my palms sweat when I know I am going to be taking home hundreds of pieces of new inspiration.  I'm known for my color matching in my collage cards - and I love to have interesting textures which make my cards into Works of ART on Paper.

FabMo Event Organizers

I made these Fascinators mostly from FabMo products. I like hats and these can be worn most any place!  My husband made this cart for me so that I can travel to shows. I also make Stain Glass windows. I also participate in musical theater and create costumes. 

I went to my first show some year ago and decided to get involved. At that show I did not see and hats so created my pattern and went from there. I have made 200 Hats I make them up or my costumers give me an idea of what they like, some bring me pieces of material and I go from there, I am now serving on the Board.

Fascinating Fascinators

I've always loved working with beautiful fabrics. A friend of mine had a japanese style pinafore apron. I loved how comfortable and stylish it was. During the pandemic I found inspiration in the many beautiful fabrics I had purchased at FabMo sales. Soon I had a large stack of aprons and sell them through a gift boutique as well as directly to customers. I love the fact that each apron is saving a piece of beautiful fabric from the dumpster.

A Fine Arts graduate with a degree in textiles and crafts, I have always been fascinated with materials, colors and textures. I love to honor the vintage styles and looks of my childhood and past and the timeless feel of classic fabrics and textiles, from the clean lines of a ‘47 Plymouth, the textures of my grandma’s couch to the fine details of a handmade quilt. Having a passion for upcycling and repurposing materials, the discovery of FabMo, my local source for exquisite rescued designer materials, has been a match made in heaven. The treasured scraps and samples offered never disappoint; they dictate my creations and the results are always one-of-a-kind items to be enjoyed for years to come. My bags are clean and nostalgic combining touch-enticing textures, savory leathers and vinyl, and colors that bring life to the eye.

I am truly grateful for the precision and quality that years of sewing have given me, and I have endless ideas and the focus and energy to keep challenging myself and delighting customers with creative designs.

FabMo has been a huge inspiration for where my product design has progressed to. When I first started making bags I simply made basic market tote bags. After exploring all of the wonderful fabrics that FabMo rescues I am more open to letting the fabric dictate the form and function of the bag and the results are one-of-a-kind beautiful pieces of art.

I was born in the Bay Area and grew up here. I’ve also been a serial crafter most of my life. Sewing and making jewelry are two pursuits that have stuck. My designs reflect the aesthetic of simplicity and subtlety, which I came to appreciate during my years living in Japan, blended with the Western benefits of non-traditional experimentation and even boldness. I like the things I make and I hope you do too. Discovering Fabmo a few years ago has been a boon. The wide variety of materials, colors, and prints would inspire anyone. Upcycling the many goods available through FabMo is a noble goal.It’s a challenge I embrace.

M M Design

I have always loved patterns, textures and colors...I dream in them often.  As an artist I have a driving need to create and find hand work very satisfying.  I was the choreographer and costume designer for a small local dance troupe and have found the transition from lifesized to miniature extremely gratifying.  I intended to make my first Doll an African ethnic figurine, but it emerged looking more Japanese than African and I felt that the spirit of the Doll had found its way out through me.  My second doll was also Asian in nature and I began researching Shinto spirituality beliefs eventually coming up with the concept of Miko Kami.  Since then, I have let the beauty of the fabrics guide me in the making of these Miko Kami Dolls much in the way a Kachina doll maker captures the spirit of the Kachina.  I have made Dolls from many ethnic, historic and fantasy realms, and as I create them I feel good thoughts and wishes flow into them through me.  

Once they are finished, a little research on the Internet helps me give them a name and create their unique personas and imagined story.  I have found great joy in creating Miko Kami Dolls and am delighted to pass these figures on to those like myself who can feel their spirits and enjoy their individual beauty.  No two are ever alike.  I make my Miko Kami Dolls with great serenity and natural tranquility and have been told that on occasion, a Doll will spiritually reach out, “speak” and bond with her intended owner.  Each figure is numbered, cataloged, signed on the bottom and sold as a one-of-a-kind affordable art piece.  

I have known FabMo since its inception over 10 years ago in Palo Alto, CA when Hannah Cranch opened her house monthly for the first redistribution of these repurposed materials.  Since then, I have let the variety and beauty of these “rescued and repurposed” fabric samples, trims and tassels inspire me to make these Female Spirit Dolls.

As a fine arts painter of many years my interest evolved into more of a sculptural and dimensional art form with mosaics. I created over 40 one-of a -kind sculptural shoes shown in my book artfulshoes.com.
From there I  morphed into working with ceramic and glass and found objects to create my unique mosaics.Everything from garden art to wall hangings.mirrors and designer pieces.

I love going to FabMo to find ceramic tiles and various materials that inspire my creations.

NIMAYANA is the collaboration of a mother-daughter team working individually and collectively to create beautiful and functional items that delight the eye and feed the spirit. Originally based in Santa Cruz, CA and recently relocated to southwestern Vermont, Leslie has had a passion for textiles since she was young. She still enjoys seeking out unique and interesting combinations to be fashioned into functional items. Megan Knight, now residing in Westchester County, New York, has created with textiles for over 60 years and continues to explore new forms of expression.  Our work feeds our spirit – we hope it does the same for you.

As ardent fans of textiles, we support the work of FabMo to rescue designer materials for creative reuse. We have been working with FabMo as volunteers, ambassadors, and consumers of FabMo materials since we first discovered them over 8 years ago. Many NIMAYANA products contain fabrics sourced through FabMo, and FabMo receives 10% of the proceeds from these items.

Carol Weisenstein has been collecting bits and bobs for years - fabric scraps, paper, leather, trims and buttons - and has transformed them into whimsical creations.

Fueled by a strong desire to repurpose treasures that would otherwise be discarded, Carol started the venture as a way to celebrate the beauty of handcrafted, upcycled goods.

I've been a FabMo fan for years because I'm passionate about their efforts to reduce materials going to landfill. The variety and quality of the materials makes every trip there feel like a treasure hunt.

My mom has been sewing for 55+ years.  It is her passion and she creates one of a kind handmade fabric crafts and we sell them at craft fairs and boutiques.  We source our fabric and other supplies from a non-profit called FabMo.  We create different types of totes, wine and water bottle bags, wallet bags, Christmas stockings, Christmas tree hangings, double-sided adjustable aprons, hot pads, mittens, table cloth, table runners, placemats, different types of scarves, dresses, etc.  We make custom items, clothes, curtains, etc.  We also do alterations.  All of these at a very reasonable price.

We source all our fabric and other supplies from FabMo.  We also volunteer at FabMo as often as we can.  Sewing is my mom's passion and FabMo has made it possible to make her dream come true.

I grew up sewing many kinds of projects, and was lucky enough to have gone to a High School that offered Clothing classes where I was inspired by my teacher, and learned proper garment construction. Luckily, Purdue University, in my hometown of West Layette, Indiana, offered a Major in Apparel Technology. I was in my element in that program, and even had a campus job at the Theater's Costume Shop! After graduation, I moved to California, and although I didn't get a full-time creative job, I have always had some involvement in making things, or teaching others. After acquiring my embroidery machine about ten years ago, I decided to make and sell my creations through Etsy, and boutiques. FabMo fabrics are so perfect for Home Decor items, table runners, wall hangings, messenger bags, etc. Most of what I sell is one-of-a-kind, and I take custom requests for special occasion gifts.

I'm so grateful that I've gotten most of my fabrics and other materials (like thread, tassels, buttons and trim) from FabMo for the past several years. The quality and beauty of the fabrics was what originally attracted my attention, but the fact that I am able to help keep materials out of the landfill by reusing them in my creations is what keeps me coming back to FabMo year after year. I'm proud to be part of such an environmentally-friendly and creative group of people.

Sew Well Said

My anthem these days is "Who Tells Our Stories, if We don't." I started making journals and books ages ago, always gave them as gifts. My Beloved late Aunt Othella kept trying to get me to start a business, but I balked; then it would be work, not fun. My aunt after graduating from Temple University,  Philadelphia at the age of 69,   began a scholarship award to aid others. When I realized I could use any monies to help support her efforts , The Write Design was born.  I channel my love for collage, mixed media into my books and favor the "junk journal" genre. Repurposing everyday items, junk mail, paper bags to use as writing surfacing. And not being too fussy. Most of my book covers are quilted with "wonky" stitching, and not one straight line to be found. The purpose is to get our words on the page, so that our place on this planet is documented!

I discovered FabMo in 2014 just after I retired. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I was in the fashion business in my 20's and immediately recognized the treasures Hannah and Jonathan were offering. I began using leathers and my collage love turned into mini patchwork quilted book covers. Now I focus on refillable journals, so people don't have to toss what many have said to me is a work of art they want to keep long after they've filled the pages.

I am a self taught sewist who enjoys learning new methods and sharin my creations with others.I take inspiration from the beauty of designer fabrics and enjoy transforming them into objects of purpose.  I find it fullfilling to make things out of pieces of textiles that would otherwise have been sent to a landfill. 

When I discovered Fabmo, I felt gifted a source of inspiration and purpose. Inspiration comes from every beautiful piece of fabric found on their tables. Purpose comes from knowing I am doing a small part in slowing the flow of material to landfills.

Based in San Francisco, artisan Michele Jackson focuses on contemporary home products and wearable art. One-of-a-kind pieces combine rescued designer materials and creative sewing and assemblage. Some pieces mounted on small cabinets, cubes, or containers provide storage.

Kathy Bonte is a Mountain View, CA designer, maker, educator and entrepreneur who loves the challenge of turning upcycled materials into fashionable objects. She discovered FabMo about ten years ago and was immediately hooked. What started as a source of affordable materials for her summer camps and after school programs eventually inspired her to start her sustainable accessories business.  

Her work has been featured at several Bay Area artisan and holiday fairs-most recently the Los Altos Rotary's Fine Art in the Park and the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco and is currently on sale at Shady Lane Gallery in Menlo Park, CA, and Present in downtown Los Altos. 

She now serves on FabMo's board and preaches the gospel of creative reuse to whoever will listen.
